The doctors and staff at Coastal Carolina Orthodontics want to help all our patients find the orthodontic treatment that works best for them. For some, that means Invisalign.
Unlike traditional forms of orthodontic treatment like braces, Invisalign straightens teeth without the necessity of wires or brackets. Using clear, customized, removable appliances called aligners, Invisalign provides a comfortable, virtually undetectable way to work towards a straighter, more confident smile.
As Invisalign aligners are made from a clear, flexible plastic, they are difficult to notice and thus, hardly anyone will know that you’re undergoing orthodontic treatment. In addition, the removable nature of Invisalign aligners allows you to occasionally take them out for special functions, brush and floss with ease, and eat whatever you like without the normal restrictions posed by braces.
How it Works
If you’re interested in Invisalign, the first step is to visit our Jacksonville, Morehead City, or Havleock, NC office to determine if this is the right option for your smile. If it is, your orthodontist will use Invisalign’s 3-D computer graphics technology to create custom aligners.
The treatment instructions your orthodontist prescribes will then translate into a sequence of finely calibrated Invisalign aligners designed to move your teeth in small steps towards the desired position. Each of these Invisalign aligners (as few as 12 or as many as 48) is precisely manufactured to fit your mouth at each stage of your orthodontic treatment plan.
Worn for about two weeks a piece, Invisalign aligners gradually move your teeth until the final alignment is achieved. From there you’ll be smiling like never before!
Is it Right for Me?
To ensure the best possible results, only orthodontists (like those found at Coastal Carolina Orthodontics’ Jacksonville, Morehead City, and Havelock, NC locations) who have been trained and certified by Align Technology can treat a patient using Invisalign.

A. You must wear your Invisalign aligners for up to 22 hours a day. You may remove them for eating, drinking, and regular oral hygiene.
A. No. Because Invisalign aligners are removable, unlike with braces, you can eat whatever you want during treatment as long as you remove the aligners beforehand. Note: prior to placing the aligners back into your mouth after a meal, it is important that you brush them and your teeth.
A. Like any orthodontic treatment appliance, there is a short adjustment period. The more you speak with your Invisalign aligners on, the quicker you will adjust to them.
A. There will be some pressure and minor discomfort for a day or two after each initial insertion of a new Invisalign aligner. This is a sign that your teeth are moving closer to their final position.
A. Yes, but your orthodontist recommends that you remove your Invisalign aligners prior to chewing gum, as the gum will stick to the aligners.
A. Our orthodontists discourage smoking with Invisalign aligners, as the cigarette smoke tends to discolor them.
A. Brushing your Invisalign aligners with toothpaste will keep them fresh and clean.
A. Regular office visits (whether you are a patient of our Jacksonville, Morehead City, or Havelock office) are required every five to six weeks. These visits allow your orthodontist to ensure that your Invisalign treatment is progressing as planned.
A. Post treatment, all orthodontic patients are instructed by their orthodontist to wear retainers at night indefinitely. Sleeping with your retainers at night will ensure a healthy bite and maintain the new position of your teeth.
A. Invisalign treatment time varies depending on the severity of the misaligned teeth. Treatment can be shorter than traditional braces though—between six and eighteen months.
A. Yes, if their teeth (including secondary molars) have grown in completely, Invisalign can work for kids. We also offer Invisalign Teen specifically for the adolescent age group.
