Meet Doctor Ball

Born in Morehead City, N.C. on October 31, 1948. I grew up on Pelitier Creek and attended public school. A three sport athlete at West Carteret High School graduating in 1967. Attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received a Bachelor of Science degree. I continued my education at the UNC School of Dentistry graduating in 1974 with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree and in 1976 from the Orthodontic Residency Program with a Master of Science degree. While at UNC School of Dentistry I was inducted into the National Dental Honor Society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon and was Commanding Officer of the Navy Dental Reserve Unit.

After graduation I went on Active Duty in the Naval Dental Corp and was stationed in Naples Italy as the regional orthodontist with offices in Italy, Sicily, and Sardinia. After leaving the Navy in 1978 I remained in Europe and joined Orthodontic Enterprises International with offices in West Germany and Italy.

In 1980 I returned home to Morehead City and opened a solo practice. A few months later Drs. Willis and Vanek asked me to join them and combine our orthodontic practices in Jacksonville and Morehead City. In October 1981 we became Willis, Vanek and Ball P.A. The rest is history! I am a member of the ADA, the AAO, the SAO, the NCAO (of which I have served as president), the UNC OAA (of which I have served as president), the Onslow County Dental Society and the Carteret County Dental Society. I am a member of the American Board of Orthodontics and CADABO.

I am married to Laura Harvey of Kinston, N.C. We have six children- five sons and one daughter. Currently we have twelve grandchildren. We split out time between Morehead City and Banner Elk, N.C.

An avid bird hunter and fly fisherman, my interests also include golf, scuba diving, hiking, and woodworking. I am a multi-engine instrument-rated pilot and have competed in local, national, and international sailing competitions.
