The team at Coastal Carolina Orthodontics knows that Halloween is a time of sweet temptations that might make you stray from your orthodontic best practices.
This is a risky move, for while chewy, sticky things might taste good in the moment, the damage they could potentially have on your orthodontic treatment will be a lot more impactful. As such, this month, like always, our orthodontists recommend avoiding any form of candy that could break you brackets.
However, on a sweeter note, there are actually some types of treats you can eat this October that will make you smile without hurting your braces.
Good Treats vs. Bad Treats
What it comes down to is that there is a difference between goodies that pose a risk to your orthodontic treatment, and goodies that don’t. Goodies that you can eat this Halloween without need for worry are basically those that are easy to chew. Some examples include:
- Melt-In-Your-Mouth Chocolates, Like 3 Musketeers
- Ice Cream
- Soft Cookies & Cakes
- Peanut Butter Cups, Like Reese’s
Goodies that you should avoid include anything that is chewy, sticky, crunchy, or hard and, thus, might damage your braces. For instance:
- Gummy Bears
- Candies with Nuts
- Hard Pretzels
- Jelly Beans
Have a Happy & Braces-Friendly Halloween!
This October 31st, have the best of both worlds – enjoy your fair share of treats while protecting your braces from damage. By sticking with the approved list of goodies and staying away from anything hard or chewy that could hurt your orthodontic treatment, you will smile brighter and more confidently this month and all the months after that too.
