Early Dental Care

by smilemakersnc on Monday, April 17, 2017 3:22 AM

Just because your child won't keep his or her first set of teeth forever, doesn't mean those tiny pearly whites don't need conscientious care. Primary teeth (baby teeth) serve some extremely important functions. As your local Jacksonville, Morehead City, and Havelock orthodontics team, we believe maintaining your child's dental health from an early age will lead to health benefits that last throughout adulthood.

The Importance of Baby Teeth

Primary teeth act as guides for the eruption of permanent teeth (adult teeth). They hold the space where new teeth will erupt as the crowns (tops) of permanent teeth push against the roots of baby teeth, causing them to resorb or melt away. As a result, the adult teeth are able to take their proper place.

Myth #1 Braces are Just for Kids

Halfway through fall, and school stadiums all across North Carolina are bustling with the sports of the season. And we at Coastal Carolina Orthodontics are cheering them on.

From football to field hockey, patients of our Jacksonville, Morehead City, and Havelock, NC offices are busy partaking in fun sports, and we couldn’t be prouder. Of course, as we root for your victory, we’d be remiss if we didn’t remind you about wearing your mouth guard.

What is a Mouth Guard?

A mouth guard is a soft plastic device that you insert into your mouth prior to playing sports with the intention of protecting your teeth from injury.

Just like a helmet protects you in football, or shin guards protect you in soccer, mouth guards are vital for shielding your smile from potential damage. By wearing one, you are actively guarding your teeth, mouth, jaw, and tongue from many threats.
